LIGHT-STAND - 2024

University Project

The Light Stand - Connect to Disconnect project addresses the modern issue of poor sleep habits caused by excessive phone use in bed.

Research shows that screens significantly impact both the quantity and quality of sleep. This project explored ways to help people transition from phone use in bed to better sleep quality through a non-digital device. The process included workshops on nightstand design, interviews, data analysis, prototyping, and user testing.

The outcome is a multifunctional light stand. Users can turn on the light by placing their phone inside a specially designed light bag, which also serves as a nightstand. This encourages users to disconnect from their phones, promoting better pre-sleep activities and ultimately improving sleep quality and overall well-being.
